Local Groups Go Mid-Week Racing at Navan Racecourse
As Navan Racecourse gears up for the Navan Racing Festival on Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 November. A number of initiatives to build stronger connections with the local community have been put in place.
Last week, the racecourse offered an exclusive mid-week package to Active Retirement Groups, Men’s Sheds and the Irish Countrywomen’s Association to come and savour the experience of a day’s racing at the famous Proudstown track. There was a great take up to the offer with many members enjoying their first day at the races which included a two-course meal in the Proudstown suite and table for the day.
Breege Lunny, Chairperson of Navan Active Retirement Group, said “It was a great day out for the group, and all in all, the racemeeting was enjoyed and offered something different to our members. The Navan track has great facilities, and the group were able to enjoy a full afternoon of fun, in a new environment, with good value. The team at Navan went out of their way to ensure the senior groups enjoyed their day at the races.”
“I’d imagine half of our group had never been to Navan Races before, including myself, and we had a wonderful afternoon – great fun,” continued Breege Lunny, who lives just down the road from the racecourse in Proudstown. “There were a few good tips, and I backed a few myself and they came out on top. I had never gone racing before and lots of us would be like that.”
Ciaran Flynn, General Manager of Navan Racecourse, commented: “We were delighted to offer this special package to our local community groups. It’s a wonderful opportunity for friends and neighbours to come together and enjoy a day of racing and food in a comfortable environment. We hope this will be the first of many initiatives and engagements with community groups and businesses from Navan and beyond.”
